A Couple Of Cuckoos: Review
A Couple Of Cuckoos is a pretty straightforward rom-com series. The show has amazing animation, with the art mainly consisting of pastel and light colors. The basic plot is rather unique, though as the story progresses it becomes quite generic. Nevertheless, the aesthetics of the show are rather impressive and compliment its theme as well. The overall show is quite entertaining, but there are some things to keep in mind before watching it.
While it is not clearly explained in the synopsis, A Couple Of Cuckoos is actually a harem show. Nagi and Erika are undoubtedly the protagonists of the series and care for each other, but other girls pose a threat to their relationship. Nagi has a crush on one of his classmates, and still harbors feelings for her despite getting engaged.
And Nagi’s adoptive sister, who happens to be Erika’s biological sister, has had feelings for Nagi. Now that it is clear that they aren’t biologically related, she feels free to pursue him. This clearly hints at an incestuous relationship, which makes some viewers uncomfortable. The anime also has excessive and unnecessary fanservice, which puts the female cast in compromising positions with the male lead.
Is Couple of Cuckoos Anime Worth Watching ?
A Couple Of Cuckoos is quite a good show. Entertaining, funny, and romantic, it covers a lot of enjoyable aspects of the shojo genre. But it also has some tropes that quite a lot of fans do not enjoy. It is a harem story, featuring a love square. It also has hints of a potential romantic relationship between adopted siblings who were raised together. The anime also has a lot of fanservice.
If any of this is off-putting for anyone, then it is better to leave the show alone. But if they don’t matter, A Couple Of Cuckoos can be quite an interesting show. Those who decide to check the show out can decide whether it’s worth the watch or not after checking out the first few episodes of the anime. This is the best way to check if a show matches one’s personal preference or not.
