What is the story of Youjo Senki?

Tanya Degurechaff is a young soldier famous for her predatory ruthlessness and uncanny tactical ability. She earned the moniker “Devil of the Rhine”. Underneath her innocent appearance, lies the soul of a man who challenged Being X, the self-proclaimed God, to a battle of wits. It resulted in his reincarnation as a young girl into a world of magical warfare.

Tanya, hellbent on defiance, resolves to rise through her country’s military ranks as it slowly descends into a world war. Only Being X stands in her way of resuming the peaceful life she once knew. However, her foresight and combat initiative have unintended consequences. It propels the mighty Empire to become one of the most powerful nations.

Youjo Senki: Review

Youjo Senki brought a different twist to the isekai genre. Whereas most isekai stories feature young men being transmigrated to another world and becoming heroic figures in the alternate world, Youjo Senki does it differently. It features a young man transmigrating to become a little girl, who later becomes a villainous protagonist, which was very refreshing for isekai fans.

The animation of the series and its original soundtrack deserve praise. They exactly fit the aesthetics of the show. The characterizations are also near perfect. This series is one of the few stories with a villain as the protagonist, making up nicely for the trope. The show’s main character is quite unhinged and shows the cruelty and psychopathic tendencies. While some viewers are uncomfortable with her actions, they actually hinted at the problems of the real world.

Is Youjo Senki Worth Watching?

Youjo Senki is definitely an enjoyable series. Short, concise, and to the point, it is a unique story that can be covered in a short period of time. But many disturbing elements in the story make it not suitable for many viewers’ preferences. Themes like war, death, manipulation, psychopathy, violence, cruelty, and corruption are very prevalent in the story. Anyone looking forward to watching this series should consider this before watching. It is best to check out the first few episodes of the anime before deciding whether to continue it or not.
