What Is Gear 5 Vulnerable To?

Gear 5 is no doubt an overpowered ability but even it has its own weakness just like anything else in the world! In this section, we will be discussing about the weakness of Gear 5. Here are some of the weaknesses of Gear 5:

1. Sea Prism Stone And Sea Water

Like any other Devil Fruit user Luffy even in his Gear 5 form is vulnerable to both Sea Prism Stone and Sea water itself! In the world of One Piece those who eat Devil Fruits are hated by sea and lose their ability to swim forever. After coming in contact with the sea they suddenly lose all their energy and start drowning as a result. The same is the case with Luffy!

Even in his Gear 5 form he will still drown if thrown or fell into sea water. Then there are these Sea Prism Stones which are utilized by the navy in the making of various tools such as cuffs etc. These stones prohibit a Devil Fruit user from making use of his powers no matter how powerful they are! If this stone makes contact with Luffy then even his Gear 5 wouldn’t remain functional at all!

These stones are majorly used and produced by the navy and the world government itself against lawless pirates. This is one of Luffy’s main weaknesses not only Gera 5 but overall!

2. He Remains Vulnerable To Cutting And Slashing Attacks

Luffy even after gaining such a tremendous power-up in the form of Gear 5 remains vulnerable to cutting and slashing attacks. We’ve already witnessed this countless times that Luffy when cut or slashed starts bleeding. This is so because Rubber properties do not allow it to absorb any kind of sharp or pointed attack. However, when Luffy’s Gear 5 was introduced, Luffy got hit by Kaido’s club (which is very pointed) as clear as day and did not even get bothered about it.

So, we can exclude the pointed attacks from here but slashing and cutting attacks definitely prove to be effective against Luffy’s strongest form yet!

3. Blackbeard’s Yami-Yami No Mi

Blackbeard is believed to be potentially the final villain at the series’s conclusion! The same guy possesses two Devil Fruits which only he can manage to do in the entire One Piece world. This is so because if anyone other than Blackbeard tries to eat more than one Devil Fruit then they will die! However, that is not the case with Blackbeard as he consumed both Thatch’s Yami-Yami No Mi and Whitebeard’s Gura-Gura No Mi!

His Yami-Yami No Mi in particular is a very dangerous power as it can literally nullify any other Devil Fruit’s power other than itself! He used this technique of his against Ace and caught him by surprise! If somehow in the future Luffy fights against Blackbeard then this power of his will definitely prove to be quite a bit troublesome for even Luffy’s Gear 5 form too!
